Wilson Pickett & Jimi Hendrix, 1966

May, 1966

In New York City, Atlantic Records hosts a party for the launch of "When A Man Loves A Woman" by Percy Sledge.  As part of the entertainment, Wilson Pickett gives a live performance, accompanied by a 23-year-old James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix.

As Hendrix wouldn't be "discovered" and move to England until late 1966, this photo captures the legendary musician before his meteoric rise to fame, but only 4 years away from an untimely overdose of barbiturates.
