Migaloo, the Albino Whale
It's rare enough to see something as massive as a humpback whale breeching the surface of the ocean, but rarer still when the whale is completely void of pigment. The above photo is among the few high-resolution images of Migaloo, the only documented albino humpback whale in the world. Photographer Jenny Dean snapped this photo in August, 2013, where Migaloo was spotted outside the North Barnard Islands near Innisfail, Australia.
Migaloo, whose name means "White Fella" in the Aboriginal language, was first spotted in 1991 along Australia's Queensland coast. With the marine mammal making regular migratory journeys from Antarctica to Australia and back, a growing number of followers have joined in tracking the progress, hoping to document and share any encounters of the distinctive creature. Migaloo's popularity has resulted in his protection under Australian law, as well as his own website.
