Jacques Henri Lartigue - Art in Motion
The silver gelatin print above was created over a century ago by Jacques Henri Lartigue (1894-1986), a French painter and photographer famous for the monochrome moments reflecting his upper-class Parisian lifestyle, as well as being a pioneer in capturing recreation in motion. His black-and-white images ranged from intimate family moments to early accomplishments in aviation, with all types of candid moments and activities in between.
Lartigue's photography was only "discovered" in 1963 when the New York Museum of Modern Art opened an exhibition featuring his work, as up until then the 69-year-old had considered himself a painter.
