Men On A Wire: New York Bridge Painters, 1914
During his tenure with the New York City Department of Bridges, photographer Eugene de Salignac captured thousands of interesting images of the city's infrastructure, with this October 7, 1914 image of painters posing on the Brooklyn Bridge possibly being the most famous.
Their nonchalance is striking, considering there were 27 known deaths during the 13 years of construction leading up to it's grand opening on May 24, 1883.
