Arriving from Frankfurt on the first of 10 planned trips to the United States, LZ 129 Hindenburg is in the process for docking to its mooring mast at Lakehurst Naval Air Station, New Jersey.
For reasons still debated the airship burst into a hydrogen-fueled fireball almost 55m (180ft) in the air, killing 36 passengers, 22 crew members and 1 civilian. In 37 seconds, the end of the zeppelin era had been explosively written.
